Course objectives for the modules falling under the Certified Master Chaplain, CMCsm designation are listed below.

Certified Master Chaplain, Homeland Security

Chaplains or potential chaplains attending the course will be able to:

  • Understand common key responsibilities applicable to all personnel in an Incident Command System (ICS) Operation.
  • Provide input on the use of religious support (chaplain/debriefing) resources.
  • Ensure the well being of agency personnel assigned to the incident.
  • Be responsible for Critical Incident Stress Management.
  • Comprehend the National Framework Structure for Emergency Management.
  • Be familiar with Light Our Way document from NVOAD for general religious support.
  • Understand the Emergency Support Function (ESP) structure and its relation to religious support and critical incident stress debriefing services.
  • Understand the basic concept of the Incident Management Team structure as articulated by the U.S. Fire Administration.

Certified Master Chaplain, Hospital

The learner chaplain will at the conclusion of this course be able to:

  • Understand the ever evolving role of today's healthcare hospital chaplain as it relates to providing spiritual care and psychological support in the healthcare setting.
  • To have an understanding of evolving healthcare settings, departments, and related agencies with whom the chaplain will be working.
  • To understand the basic tenants of spiritual care to all faith traditions.
  • To have a working knowledge of Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and Defusing as it relates to caring for hospital staff following a qualifying critical incident.
  • To have a basic understanding of emergency management principals and the incident command system as it relates to healthcare settings.
  • To have a basic understanding of the challenges facing chaplains in relation to terrorist type incidents, pandemics, and mass casualty situations.

Certified Master Chaplain, Military

On completion of this class the enrollees will be able to:

  • Demonstrate Religious Support Fundamentals (RSF)
  • Discuss Religious Support Environment (RSE)
  • Understand Unit Ministry Team Operations (UMTO)
  • Discuss differences in battalion, squadron, brigade, regiment and group religious support operations
  • Discuss Installation Unit Ministry Team Religious Support Operations (IUMTRS)
  • Be Familiar with other important aspects of military chaplaincy including Combat and Operational Stress Control (COSC) and , Critical Incident Management (CIM) and Critical Event Debriefings (CED)

Certfified Master Chaplain, Law Enforcement

At the completion of each module the student will be able to:

  • Articulate the key elements in the module that pertain to law enforcement chaplaincy.
  • Explain how a law enforcement chaplain will integrate the module material into the overall role of a law enforcement chaplain.
  • Utilize the material in each module in practical application as a law enforcement chaplain.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in each modules subject matter by correctly answering a series of questions based on the module material.
